HOUSING SERVICE TECHNICIAN

General Responsibilities:
The Department of Student Housing and Residence Life serves over 3200 students who reside in 6 residence halls and over 2500 summer guests. UAB Campus Dining spans 15 food venues and over 200,000 square feet of service and preparation space. As part of the Student Housing and Dining Facilities team, this position is primarily responsible for refinishing surfaces (painting, staining, furniture refurbishment, drywall patching/finishing, etc.), performing routine repairs on small appliances, and completing various other maintenance requests in the campus residential and dining spaces. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Student Housing and Dining Facilities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Assists the Student Housing maintenance team in daily upkeep and preservation, and the restoration of all student apartments and common areas upon resident or guest move-out. Responds to student and staff maintenance requests as assigned.
2. Manages inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment to ensure continuous availability and reports stock deficiencies to appropriate personnel. Cleans and maintains equipment and tools to maintain working condition.
3. Performs routine repairs on all small appliances including, but not limited to refrigerators, microwaves, oven/ranges, hoods and dish washers. Assists in performance of general refinishing of surfaces to include, but not limited to painting, staining, furniture refurbishment and drywall patching/finishing.
4. Works with outside vendors and serves as a liaison for contracted services to ensure accuracy and quality of work. Assists in maintaining established standards of cleanliness, sanitation and quality of contracted work.
5. Performs routine inspections of all Student Housing facilities to identify and report damage or areas in need of repair or refurbishment.
6. Coordinates with Assistant Director in identification and scheduling of special projects and on-going preventative maintenance throughout facilities.
7. Supervises and provides on-boarding, guidance and support to irregular and part-time Student Housing Maintenance staff. Assists with training of Student Housing Maintenance Specialists for specialized projects, apartment restoration, and custodial or special assignments.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Hourly Pay Range: $17.50 – $20.00

Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma or GED and five (5) years of related experience required.
