Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Psych - Behavioral Neurobiology, is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator II. This position will primarily be responsible for oversight of a human circadian research protocol as part of an NHLBI-funded R01. The protocol occurs one to two weekends per month.

Ability to work weekends is critical since this research protocol occurs on the weekends.

General Responsibilities

  • To serve as coordinator for studies and provide support to other team members within the confines of the protocol as directed.

  • To support screening and participant eligibility determination, working with more senior team members to ensure compliance.

  • To conduct activities in accordance with the protocol, regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

  • To assist with the study life cycle from start-up to closure, i.e., collecting and recording data, recruiting and performing follow-up with participants, scheduling visits and assisting in coordination of lab and fieldwork.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Schedules research participants, manages research assistants, and oversees data collection and analyses. There is also a Sleep and Epilepsy project that will be funded soon that will require substantial effort for overseeing data acquisition through the EMR and transfer to the primary sites.

  2. Oversight of a 30-hour constant routine protocol to measure human circadian rhythms. This oversight will include contacting and scheduling participants and research assistants, checking in research participants, and checking them out at the end of the protocol.

  3. Oversight of all data collection and quality control will be a critical element. Data acquisition for the Sleep and Epilepsy project and general study oversight will also be a responsibility.

  4. In addition to the weekend responsibilities described above, weekdays will involve assisting with participant screening and learning and overseeing radioimmunoassay for human melatonin levels. Additional responsibilities may involve assistance with data cleaning, analyses, and manuscript and presentation development.

  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Salary Range: $50,050 - $81,330

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Experience working with human clinical studies, particularly with respect to sleep/circadian rhythms; statistical analyses, particularly with R, would be extremely helpful.

  • Good people skills are helpful given the nature of the work. Both overseeing a complicated study and working on weekends.

  • Attention to detail is also critical, as protocol violations, even minor, negatively impact this study.

  • Statistical skills, including use of R, help with data cleaning and analyses.
