Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Neurobiology, is in search of a dedicated Research Scientist Senior to join their team.
General Responsibilities
A Research Scientist Senior oversees substantial research projects, providing expert guidance and ensuring rigorous scientific standards. This role involves a broader scope of responsibility, including project management, cross-functional collaboration, and securing funding through grant proposals. Senior scientists exercise considerable discretion in research decisions and play a pivotal role in shaping the research agenda. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Plan and Lead Weekly Laboratory Meetings of the Powell Lab (in presence or absence of Dr. Powell).
Integrate into the larger laboratory collaborative projects with the existing team of scientists/trainees in the Powell Laboratory to bring projects from concept to publication.
Conduct bench research within the Powell Laboratory.
Establish and oversee in vivo recording techniques within the Powell Laboratory.
Prepare figures and write manuscripts for publication.
Oversee the science of the Powell Lab Team on a day-to-day and weekly basis.
Write external grant applications to fund ongoing science in the Powell Lab.
Write external grant applications of your own design based on your independent research goals.
Perform independent research on your research goals and those of the Powell Lab.
Participate in weekly 1:1 meetings with Dr. Powell.
Write MPI grant applications with Dr. Powell and the laboratory.
Design and conduct experimental research and investigations to explore and support scientific discovery and/or development.
Record, interpret, and analyze study data.
Develop research documentation for the Powell Lab including protocols, reports, reviews, publications, manuscripts, and summaries.
Disseminate research findings to internal and external audiences (Scientific Meetings, Works-in-progress, seminars, etc.).
Ensure the quality and scientific integrity in research activities of the Powell Lab.
Act independently with input from Dr. Powell and Team.
Mentor less experienced team members.
Provide all grant applications written at least 4 weeks prior to internal institutional due date for editing by Dr. Powell (both lab and independent applications)
Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $81,525- $ 132,475
Qualifications
Qualifications
Doctorate degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience OR Master's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in a related field and seven (7) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
Degree in a biological science preferred.
