Description

Oversees and documents the institutional compliance program at UAB, promoting adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as University shared values and policies. Maintains the integrity and ethical standards of the institution, which includes a significant doctoral degree-granting and research mission and a Division I Athletics program. Reports to the Chief Risk & Compliance Officer and is responsible for programmatic activities that advance the compliance program vision and strategy set by the Chief Risk & Compliance Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develops, implements, and maintains an effective compliance and ethics program in
accordance with the Federal Sentencing Guidelines and the U.S. Department of Justice’s
guidance; Evaluates effectiveness of standards and procedures to prevent, detect, and
respond to compliance issues; Promotes an organizational culture that encourages ethical
conduct and a commitment to compliance with the law; Seeks to continuously improve the
compliance program.
2. Conducts regular risk assessments and compliance audits to identify potential areas of
vulnerability and risk; Monitors and reports on the effectiveness of the compliance program
activities to senior management; Organize and support executive and administrative
committees to set the tone and carry out the work for the compliance program.
3. Develop and deliver compliance training programs for faculty, staff, and students; Ensures
that all members of the university community are informed about compliance policies and
procedures and program activities.
4. Serves as the Campus Designee for policymaking and assures University policies follow
appropriate governance processes for drafting, review, approval, and updating;
Collaborates with various departments to ensure policies are effectively communicated and
implemented.
5. Leads investigations into compliance violations and ethical breaches; Develops and
recommends corrective action plans to address compliance issues and prevent future
occurrences.
6. Serves as a liaison between the compliance program and unit leaders; Foster strong
working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
7. Maintains comprehensive records of compliance program activities and investigations;
prepares and present regular reports on compliance matters to senior management.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $99,090 - $161,025

Qualifications

Bachelor s degree in Business, English, Finance, Healthcare or a related field and seven (7) years of experience in compliance, legal, or regulatory affairs. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement

Licenses / Certifications / Registrations:
Must be Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) by the Compliance Certification Board (CCB), Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) from the Compliance Certification Board (CCB) or certified with a Certificate in Research Compliance (CRC) by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) within first two (2) years of hire date. If working with academic medical schools and research units, must be eligible to sit for the Certificate in Healthcare Research Compliance (CHRC) at time of hire.
