Description

The Director of Student Financial Aid is responsible for the oversight and implementation of the process and procedures for the distribution of scholarships and other sources of funding to students in the School of Nursing, and assuring compliance with all guidelines, policies, rules and regulations applicable to distribution of such funding. The role is carried out under the supervision of the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and in collaboration with the Senior Director of Development and the Executive Director of Administration and Fiscal Affairs. The Director also works within the infrastructure of the Office of Scholarships and Other Student Funding, collaborating with the members of three groups, an Advisory Committee, an Oversight Panel, and a Funding Action Panel that play critical roles in the process of distribution of scholarship and other sources of funding to students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Subscribes to the mission and vision of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing (SON).
2. Serves as the point of contact for all SON student funding matters.
3. Participates with and serves as an ad hoc member of the Scholarships/and Other Funding Advisory Committee, Oversight Panel, and Funding Action Panel.
4. Confers with the Office of Development and Alumni Development to ensure scholarships are awarded in line with the intent of the donor.
5. Lead's the development of processes and procedures that include determining priorities for funding on an annual basis, operationalizing the funding priorities, and providing oversight of the funding process including the matching of funding to students based on funding criteria provided.
6. Demonstrates compliance in meeting the criteria for awarding of individual scholarships and other sources of student funding.
7. Develops a timeline and a plan for completion of all activities to be completed on a yearly basis.
8. Oversees the scheduling of all meetings of the committee/panels in line with yearly timelines.
9. Develops guidelines for processing scholarships and other funding distributions to students, including evaluation and use of available applications to support the awarding of scholarships.
10. Collaborates with the Office of Student Success in the process of engaging students, communicating with students about applications for funding, and the management of applications for funding.
11. Prepares reports on scholarships and other available funding and their distribution annually.
12. Develops and implements a plan for evaluation of the processes and procedures and success in awarding of scholarships and other funding to students in a timely manner.
13. Performs other related duties as directed to support the tripartite mission of the School of Nursing.
(Annual Salary: $63,875 - $103,800)

Qualifications

Master's degree in Business Administration or other degree relevant and five (5) years of relevant experience in the academic setting, chiefly in areas of project management and collaborative leadership. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferred skills:
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with those engaged in the Scholarship and Other Student Funding process.
  • Self-motivated with strong skills in innovative thinking, problem solving, interpersonal communication, and excellence in written and verbal communications.
  • Highly organized, and detail and accuracy oriented.
  • Strong computer experience to include Microsoft Access, Excel, and Oracle, and other programs for tracking scholarships and other student funding, and for processing distribution of scholarships and other funds to students.
