ASSISTANT DIRECTOR-RESIDENCE LIFE

General Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, oversee the Residence Life program that is designed to engage on-campus students by providing an educational and student-centered living community. To implore a residential curricular approach to student learning based on needs assessment for strategy implementation. To work on enhancing the overall student experience by furthering the growth and development of the residence life program. To utilize inter/intra-departmental collaboration to provide an exceptional and holistic on-campus experience to students.
This position, along with other key administrators, is responsible for the safety, security, well-being, and engagement of over 3200 students living in 6 residence halls on campus. Every aspect of staffing, programming, accountability, engagement and sustainability is managed internally within the department of residence life, of which this position is a key leader.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Provides primary leadership and management for the day-to-day operations of the Residence Life Office and the Residence Halls. Works to provide 24/7 staffing coverage for the Residence Hall front desks. Collaborates with the Director of Housing and Dining Operations on overnight security coverage through 3rd party contract. Supervises the Graduate Assistant for Residence Life Operations.
2. Collaborates with the Assistant Director for Academic Initiatives and Assistant Director for Care and Peer Support programs to hire, train, supervise, and provide ongoing development for Residence Life Coordinators and Graduate Assistants.
3. Provides direction and support for the student staff selection process, including recruitment, hiring, and placement process. Collaborates with the Assistant Director for Academic Initiatives and Assistant Director for Care and Peer Support Programs on hiring processes for Learning Community Mentors and Peer Wellness Ambassadors.
4. Assists with the initial emergency response and follow-up to students in crisis in the residence halls and participates in the Assistant Director level on-call rotation.
5. Maintains effective and proactive communication with Assistant Director of Academic Initiatives,
6. Housing Assignments Coordinators, and Housing Facilities team to plan and implement various administrative tasks within the residence halls, including monthly Health and Safety Checks, semester roster checks, room changes, end of year closing etc.
7. Serves as the primary contact for the office of Community Standards and Student Accountability (CSSA) regarding issues concerning student conduct code violations and the adjudication of conduct cases by Residence Life Coordinators serving as conduct officers. Coordinates regular meetings between CSSA Assistant Director(s) and Residence Life staff serving as hearing officers to ensure effective communication and ongoing staff development related to the student conduct process.
8. Coordinates assessment to understand the overall on-campus satisfaction and identify gaps in current services and supports. Assists in communicating the impact of the same to the campus community.
9. Serves as the primary facilitator for the Residential Advisory Council (RAC), a focus group of current residents representative of all residence halls. Recruits students to participate through intentional outreach and advertisement. Plans and facilitates monthly RAC meetings to discuss student perspectives on relevant topics within the department.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Pay Range: $47,665 – $55,000
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership, Counseling or a related field and three (3) years of related experience is required. Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
• Must possess the ability to exercise independent judgement with limited supervision.
• Prioritize tasks effectively.
• Work within established deadlines.
• Extensive experience with student crisis response and mitigation.
• Work effectively as part of a team.
• Experience in recruiting, training, and evaluating the work performance of new professionals is essential to this role.
• Knowledge and use of best practices within Student Housing and student support.
• Ability to synthesize, collate, and prepare reports from existing and collected data.
• Establish or revise policies, protocols, and guidelines for the effective management of student and professional staff, as well as the care and safety of students living on campus.
