Position Summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Neurobiology, is seeking a skilled Research Scientist to join their team. This position will contribute to active research projects requiring specialized knowledge of ex vivo slice electrophysiology, molecular neuroscience, and animal behavioral assays. This position will oversee projects within the laboratory and assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab experiments. Specific position responsibilities will include performing established laboratory assays, generating data, interpreting and performing graphical analysis on data, troubleshooting new protocols, writing and maintaining lab protocols, overseeing junior scientists, monitoring project deliverables, writing manuscripts and contributing to research grants, and contributing to research planning/design. This position will operate with a moderate degree of independence. Ability to communicate effectively with team members and participate in a team-oriented environment is essential.

General Responsibilities

  • A Research Scientist conducts advanced studies in a specific field, applying specialized knowledge to drive research projects. This role involves data analysis, interpretation of results, and contribution to scientific literature. The position requires collaboration with peers and adherence to established protocols, with moderate autonomy and responsibility for project deliverables. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.

Salary Range: $ 70,425- $ 114,440

Qualifications

Qualifications

Doctorate degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience OR Master s degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience OR Bachelor s degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Doctorate degree in neuroscience, with a specialization in ex vivo slice electrophysiology tools, and have at least 3 years of relevant prior laboratory research experience.

  • Candidates with additional molecular biology experience are desired.
