Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Neurology's Killion Center, seeks to hire a Research Scientist for the lab of Dr. Talene Yacoubian. The lab's focus is on understanding mechanisms of neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease and related disorders. We seek a highly motivated individual who can lead projects examining the molecular and cellular mechanisms regulating alpha-synuclein aggregation and clearance in cellular and animal models of Parkinson's disease.
General Responsibilities
A Research Scientist conducts advanced studies in a specific field, applying specialized knowledge to drive research projects. This role involves data analysis, interpretation of results, and contribution to scientific literature. The position requires collaboration with peers and adherence to established protocols, with moderate autonomy and responsibility for project deliverables. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Designing and conducting experiments examining molecular and cellular mechanisms regulating alpha-synuclein aggregation and clearance in cellular and animal models of Parkinson's disease.
Performing primary neuronal cell culture and live imaging.
Supervising and mentoring undergraduate/graduate lab students.
Writing manuscripts and grants, presenting investigational findings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $ 70,425- $ 80,000
Qualifications
Qualifications
Doctorate degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience OR Master s degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience OR Bachelor s degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
Candidates should have a PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology or equivalent field.
This job involves advanced laboratory techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology.
Candidates are expected to have prior experience in cell culture and small animal handling.
Experience in primary neuronal cell culture and live imaging will be considered a plus.
Candidates should exhibit breath of knowledge in experimental design and execution to meet research goals.
