Financial Officer II

This position is responsible for overseeing complex financial activities and providing guidance on budgetary and fiscal matters. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the division's success through financial planning, resource management, and data-driven decision-making.
General Responsibilities
Manages and has significant authority for financial operations of larger, more complex units.
Develops and administers budgets and financial systems.
Projects revenue.
Performs space and facility planning.
Manages grants and ensures regulatory compliance.
Monitors adherence to and follows established guidelines, policies, and procedures for the assigned unit.
Ensures all financial operations are in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Establishes and maintains accurate financial management databases.
Makes decisions regarding the reporting and use of financial resources.
Provides financial guidance to assigned staff and appropriate university personnel and coordinates integration with the university accounting system.
May oversee billing and collections operations, including third-party reimbursement and direct patient billing for some units.
May manage revenue-producing activities.
May manage all or part of the accounting function for the assigned unit.
Typically supervises office support and/or professional staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, discipline, and, if necessary, discharge.
Handles other duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience
Hard Skills: Experience with Oracle, Lawson, post-award grant management, contract management.
Account reconciliations, budget development and implementation.
Experience with both UAB and HSF finance.
Experience with BA4 software.
Soft Skills: Ability to work under pressure during deadlines, customer service.
Salary Range: $55,180 - $89,670
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or a related field and five (5) years of related experience required.
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement
