LABORATORY VENTILATION SUPERVISOR - (T237969)

Description

To develop and maintain a laboratory ventilation program designed to provide containment of biohazardous aerosols and/or volatile chemicals used in the workplace. To diagnose program performance problems, identify potential contamination hazards and perform required certifications for biological safety areas.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs certification tests on biological safety areas and systems as required by applicable
    regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Reports performance issues found in laboratory ventilation systems and conducts follow up
    studies to ensure compliance.
  • Performs corrective action when needed.
  • Maintains certification instrumentation and supplies as necessary.
  • Ensures that laboratory ventilation systems are adequate to prevent the release of etiologic
    agents that may cause contamination to the work environment, other research projects,
    animal colonies or community environment.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate records, reports, and certifications for laboratory
    ventilation systems in accordance with federal guidelines and funding agency requirements.
  • These files should be ready for inspection at the request of a federal auditor or funding
    agency official.
  • Reviews plans for new construction and renovation projects, attends construction meetings
    and recommends appropriate ventilation/filtration systems as required by the degree of
    hazard anticipated and assure that such ventilation/filtration equipment is purchased, tested
    and installed correctly.
  • Establishes a working relationship with the Department of Facilities Management to ensure
    that proper maintenance is performed on laboratory ventilation systems.
  • Assists with indoor air quality investigations and applications.
  • Supervises departmental staff to include hiring, evaluating, disciplining and terminating
    employees, when appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $20.80 - $32.26

Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited Technical School of HVAC or related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement. Current NSF Biosafety Cabinet Field Certifier accreditation preferred.
