The Volpicelli-Daley lab is seeking an Aligning Science Across Parkinson's disease Research Scientist Senior in the pathobiology and structural biology of protein aggregation in Parkinson's disease. This position will provide access to unique networking, career building and presentation opportunities.

A Research Scientist Senior oversees substantial research projects, providing expert guidance and ensuring rigorous scientific standards.

General Responsibilities

  • This role involves a broader scope of responsibility, including project management, cross-functional collaboration, and securing funding through grant proposals.

  • Senior scientists exercise considerable discretion in research decisions and play a pivotal role in shaping the research agenda.

  • Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.

Additional Duties

  • Express and and purify alpha-synuclein using fast performance liquid chromatography and perform quality controls.

  • Perform alpha-synuclein fibril amplification using human biosamples.

  • Troubleshoot and optimize alpha-synuclein amplification assays.

  • Assist with performing biochemical and biophysical assays to assess alpha-synuclein fibril structure.

  • Design experiments in collaboration with Dr. Volpicelli-Daley.

  • Collect and store data in an organized manner to yield clear, error-free results that are easily analyzed and shared with the scientific community.

  • Maintain e-notebooks on a regular basis so that experiments can be easily replicated by others and data can be easily found.

  • Supervise graduate students and Scientist I who will help with project.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with protein purification

  • Experience with tissue and cell fractionation techniques

  • Experience with chaperones related to alpha-synuclein and tau fibrillization

  • Experience with proteomics to identify co-factors involved in protein amyloid fibril formation

  • Evidence of project leadership; able to drive direction of project from hypothesis generation to final publication

  • Be able to proactively optimize and troubleshoot experiments using latest techniques

Salary Range: $81,525 - $132,475

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience

  • OR Master's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience

  • OR Bachelor's degree in a related field and seven (7) years of related experience required.

  • Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
