Description

To independently manage human resources services to employees within a large, complex division(s), department(s), college, or school. To provide strategic HR advisement for the assigned area and serve as primary contact for all HR related matters in the areas of employment, compensation, employee relations, international recruitment and retention, organizational planning, human resources training and development and onboarding. May work with other UAB-affiliated HR entities. May supervise, mentor, and/or assign tasks to lower level HR support staff. To serve as the liaison to the Office of Human Resources and/or the Dean's office for all academic and non-academic human resources related matters. To interpret, implement, and ensure compliance with HR policies, procedures, and programs. May plan, strategize, and advise faculty, staff, fellows, residents, post-docs, and international personnel in key areas such as recruitment, hiring, compensation, termination, etc. To serve as a key team member in assisting with the development and implementation of departmental, college, and/or school-wide HR policies and practices within the guidelines provided by the institution in an effort to strategically advance institutional missions. Serves as a resource/advisor to organization leadership.


Job Summary:


Under general supervision, this role manages human resources services for School of Nursing research grant and contract staff. Responsibilities include position development, recruitment, hiring, compensation, employee relations, international recruitment, training, development, and onboarding. The role advises faculty, staff, research fellows, post-docs, and international personnel on HR matters; ensures compliance with HR policies and procedures; and maintains accurate documentation in required systems. This position coordinates training initiatives, monitors accreditation and regulatory requirements, and supports ethical HR governance. Serves as an HR resource to leadership, promoting a collaborative, equitable, and compliant work environment aligned with the School of Nursing mission.


Duties and Responsibilities:


• Talent Management Employee Relations; Advise faculty, staff, student employees, and international personnel on HR matters.
• Guide supervisors on employee relations, performance issues, and corrective actions.
• Develop and administer corrective actions, including reprimands and performance improvement plans.
• Mediate workplace concerns and support an inclusive environment.
• Conduct investigations into complaints, policy violations, and ethical concerns; document findings and recommend actions.
• Support leadership in succession planning and workforce development. Promote ethical governance and a respectful workplace culture.
• Recruitment Hiring Processes Lead position development, recruitment, hiring, compensation analysis, and onboarding for research and student positions.
• Collaborate with the GDRM team and Director of Research Operations to assess staffing needs and process RedCap submissions.
• Maintain position descriptions; coordinate request/refill forms and liaise with HR and SON stakeholders.
• Manage new hire, reclassification, and termination processes to ensure smooth transitions.
• Conduct salary and market analyses to ensure equity.
• Track and report recruitment and reclassification activities.
• Ensure efficient onboarding and offboarding processes.
• Training, Compliance Documentation Management Assist HRP Generalist Lead with HR training and development initiatives.
• Ensure employees complete SON Operational Guidelines review and required compliance training.
• Ensure grant/contract employees review ORS Policies and Procedures before gaining card key access.
• Participate in ORS meetings and support ORS activities as needed.
• Track and report evaluations for grant/contract personnel with the HRP Manager. Partner with GDRM to notify employees of funding changes and track end dates to ensure timely displacement notices.
• Manage documentation for certification and training to meet accreditation, university, and industry standards.
• Track new hire clearance through Employee Health.
• Update training and support materials to align with UAB policies and communicate HR program and policy changes.
• Perform other duties supporting the School of Nursing mission.

Salary Range: $52,555 - $85,400

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and seven (7) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills:
Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible human resources generalist experience
