The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Neurosurg-Clinical Research, is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator II.
General Responsibilities
To serve as coordinator for studies and provide support to other team members within the confines of the protocol as directed.
To support screening and participant eligibility determination, working with more senior team members to ensure compliance.
To conduct activities in accordance with the protocol, regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
To assist with the study life cycle from start-up to closure, i.e., collecting and recording data, recruiting and performing follow-up with participants, scheduling visits and assisting in coordination of lab and fieldwork.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Serves as the primary coordinator for clinical research studies within the Department of Neurosurgery, providing operational and administrative support to investigators, neurosurgical faculty, and research team members in accordance with study protocols.
Supports screening and eligibility determination for neurosurgical trials, collaborating with senior staff to ensure strict adherence to regulatory requirements and protocol specifications. Responsibilities include assisting in the review and management of study documents, with particular attention to neurosurgery-specific procedures and surgical workflows.
Conducts all study-related activities in compliance with applicable regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards throughout the full study lifecycle from start-up through closeout, including patient recruitment, perioperative and post-operative follow-up, data collection and documentation, visit scheduling, and coordination of imaging, laboratory, and procedural requirements.
Additionally, this role serves as a mentor and resource for junior staff and student assistants, fostering a collaborative research environment within the Department of Neurosurgery while supporting high-quality clinical and translational research initiatives.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Annual Salary Range: $50,050 - $81,330
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
Knowledge of study protocols, adherence to GCP, IRB, and sample handling safety requirements.
Comprehensive understanding of related scientific and clinical terminology, organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to problem-solve, written and verbal communication skills, understanding of clinical research conducted according to GCP.
Clinical research experience, knowledge of clinical research regulatory/compliance affairs, organizational skills, ability to work as part of the team, as well as independently with minimal supervision, ability to walk at least one mile a day, and lift up to 15 pounds.
