COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
University of Alabama at Birmingham
The Communications Specialist is responsible for managing the development and implementation of content for the National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability (NCHPAD). They will work under the direction of the Medical Editor to support media production staff, oversee content planning, production, and distribution across multiple platforms. The position will collaborate with program teams, creative staff, and leadership to support communication goals and ensure high-quality, accessible resources are delivered.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
· Supports unit-wide communications initiatives by gathering information, preparing materials, and coordinating distribution using university approved platforms and tools.
· Drafts, edits, and produces content for channels that may include web, email, social media, video, newsletters, and print publications.
· Tracks and reports on engagement metrics to evaluate communications effectiveness.
· Provides logistical and administrative support for communication projects and initiatives.
· Collaborates with colleagues and stakeholders to implement communications projects and initiatives.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field. Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Work Characteristics
· Knowledge and understanding of advanced video equipment, lighting techniques and audio techniques
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively
· Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively
· Ability to work independently and collaborate
· Proficient with productivity, communication and marketing tools and software
