The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Ped - Hematology/Oncology is seeking a Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator II.

This position will support clinical operations and patient care activities within the clinic setting. Responsibilities include patient triage, room preparation and cleaning, and ensuring compliance with clinic protocols. The role will also involve managing clinical documentation, including scanning and uploading records into Chartmaxx, maintaining data accuracy in CAREWare, and assisting with lab data entry. Additional duties include participating in staff meetings, supporting quality improvement initiatives, and assisting with departmental projects and outreach efforts as assigned.

General Responsibilities

  • To serve as primary coordinator for clinical research studies and supporting more senior team members.

  • To provide a lead role in protocol screening and participant eligibility determination working alongside other team members to ensure compliance. May provide oversight to junior clinical research coordinators (CRC) and clinical research nurse coordinators (CRNC) in review of study documents.

  • To conduct all study activities in accordance with the protocol, Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

  • To provide quality care to participants and their families within the area of clinical specialty.

  • To coordinate the life cycle of the study from start-up through maintenance to closure.

  • To manage participant care including recruitment, screening, scheduling, consenting, conducting visits, and collecting various assessments such as adverse event (AE) information or questionnaires.

  • To perform the informed consent process following GCP.

  • To act as a liaison between the clinical and research staff, departments, ancillary services and the study sponsor to ensure protocol compliance throughout the study.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. In appropriate Hematology/Oncology clinic settings, triage patients in accordance with established iConnect and departmental protocols, including assessment of vital signs, chief complaints, and treatment-related symptoms. Prepare and clean patient rooms following each encounter, ensuring a safe and compliant clinical environment. At the end of the clinic, perform thorough cleaning of lab and triage areas per Adolescent Health Center and infection control protocols, disinfect shared equipment (including laptops and clinical tools), return items to secured storage, assess patient care areas for cleanliness and safety, and ensure proper shutdown of clinic spaces.

  2. Manage clinical documentation by scanning and uploading patient records into Chartmaxx (Pediatric Patients Only) in a timely and accurate manner. Ensure proper handling and destruction of original documents once electronic records are verified. Assist with data entry of laboratory results, treatment information, and other clinical data into the CAREWare system, maintaining accuracy and compliance with regulatory and departmental standards. Support coordination of patient information related to oncology care, including treatment tracking and follow-up documentation.

  3. Participate in staff, departmental, and multidisciplinary team meetings, including those related to Hematology/Oncology patient care and treatment planning. Engage in program in-services, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical performance and patient outcomes. Support departmental operations by contributing to outreach efforts, patient education initiatives, and other duties as assigned by program leadership.

  4. Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Salary Range: $60,835 - $98,855

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
