Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Ped - Pulmonary, is seeking a skilled and experienced Scientist I to join their team. The Harris laboratory studies cystic fibrosis (CF) with particular focus on targetable mechanisms of disease heterogeneity or developing novel approaches to therapy in preclinical models. As CFTR is an ion channel expressed primarily in epithelial and glandular cells, the applicant should have deep expertise in cell and molecular biology. In addition to standard biochemical techniques, this applicant would also benefit from previous experience in organoid work and electrophysiology, as these are some of the functional readouts of CFTR-directed intervention. Collaborating within the CF Research Center, the applicant should also be a generous teammate and communicator. Under minimal supervision, the applicant will assist the PI in all laboratory activities including but not limited to designing and executing experiments to meet the scientific goals of the lab; collecting, recording and ensuring accuracy of data; providing prompt and accurate summaries of the data; and recognizing methodological problems and implementing pragmatic solutions. The successful applicant should have meticulous molecular and cell biology skills, as much of the bench work involves developing and probing preclinical cellular models.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Plans, coordinates and conducts scientific research requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard scientific techniques. Much of this work may be at the bench generating, maintaining, and probing cell cultures.
Collects, analyzes and interprets data; prepares statistical and narrative reports and/or graphs.
Maintain records of all research activities utilizing effective computer skills to compile data and prepare reports; ensure accuracy of data/ and perform routine to complex calculations
Supervises and/or perform equipment maintenance, operations and quality control procedures. Maintain stocked, serviceable, and laboratory; place orders as instructed for supplies; and reconcile invoices and goods received. This may include education of students or support of other trainees.
Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations; maintain all records and forms; and dispose of biohazardous.

Salary Range: $63,125- $103,700
Qualifications
Qualifications
Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR M.D. and Master's degree. OR Master's degree and four (4) years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
