ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR-STUDENT CAREER RELATIONS
The University of Alabama at Birmingham

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Leads UAB's efforts to build and sustain meaningful partnerships with employers who recruit, hire, and develop our students and alumni.
2. Serve as the primary administrator of the University's Handshake platform, ensuring effective employer onboarding, job posting management, and data integrity to support high-quality recruitment activity.
3. Act as the main point of contact for employers, proactively engaging business and industry partners to expand experiential learning opportunities, strengthen talent pipelines, and support workforce development initiatives that align with student outcomes and employer needs.
4. Drives strategic employer outreach (including in-person engagement, relationship cultivation, and participation in industry events) to elevate UAB's visibility and foster connections that result in internships, full-time roles, and community-based professional experiences.
5. Leads efforts to grow off-campus, part-time employment opportunities as part of the Job Location and Development grant, collaborating with employers and community partners to increase access to meaningful work for students.
6. Supervises the Coordinator of Employer Alumni Engagement and provides guidance to a student team responsible for employer-focused communications and social media.
7. Work cross-functionally with campus partners to align employer engagement strategies with academic and career readiness goals and use data and employer feedback to continuously improve services and strengthen employer satisfaction.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Pay Range: $57,940 – $72,000

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, Higher Education, Education, Social Work, Human Resources, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience in employer recruitment and retention. Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.


Related fields may include:
Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Business, Human Resources, Organizational Leadership, Public Administration, Communications, or closely related disciplines.

Related Experience may include:
Corporate recruiting, talent acquisition, or business development that demonstrates employer engagement and partnership cultivation.

Preferences:
• Candidates with experience in higher education supporting career services and employer or community-facing engagement.
• Experience administering career services technology platforms such as Handshake, employer relationship management, recruitment strategy, data reporting, and workforce development partnership building.
• Relationship building, strategic thinking, professional communication, sound judgment, and the ability to supervise and develop both professional and student staff.
