The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a Business Officer II to serve in the capacity of business manager for the Heersink School of Medicine Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology. The successful applicant will support the department Administrator with administrative detail with responsibility for financial management/budget, grants administration, policy interpretation and enforcement. Conducts special projects and compiles reports regarding budgets, personnel, and research activities. Interacts with University administrative units and assures the integrity of department/school administration and financial operations. Serves as grants manager for the department. Interacts with administrators and assists with interdepartmental collaborations. May handle compliance-related issues
General Responsibilities
Serves in the capacity of business manager, relieves department head/large division director or dean of administrative detail with responsibility for financial management/budget, personnel policy administration, space and facilities planning, grants administration, policy interpretation and enforcement.
Conducts special projects, analyzes data and compiles reports regarding budgets, personnel and space utilization.
Interacts with University administrative units and assures the integrity of department/division/school administrative and financial operations.
Manages staff and handles strategic planning.
Serves as financial/budget/grants management officer for assigned unit.
May interact with administrators and assist with interdepartmental collaborations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure proper accounting of departmental accounts
Provide guidance on major equipment purchases and bid laws
Provide timely reports to departmental faculty and Department Administrator monthly.
Analyze accountancy activity and proactively resolve budget vs. actual issues.
Prepare payments, review and approve purchase orders, P-card transactions, and payment requests for accuracy and appropriateness.
Post-Award Grants Management: Pay and post invoices, prepare reports; re-budget and process funding source changes.
Ensure proper accounting of grant accounts, amendments, modifications, and extensions.
Reconcile grant and non-grant accounts and provide reporting and analysis.

Salary Range: $63,875-$80,000
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field and five (5) years of related experience required.
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
