Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a PATIENT SERVICES COORDINATOR II to work under general supervision and according to UAB Medicine established policies and procedures, provides a variety of specialized services in support of the operations of their assigned physicians, advanced practice providers and assigned clinics. May direct the work of other clerical employees.
The position supports dental students, residents, and the International Residency Program by interacting with patients and their families, providing information about pre and post treatment care. Additionally, this role is responsible for managing billing and financial plans for patients in both clinical programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assign and manage patients for both student and resident clinics. Serve as liaison between the dental provider and patients/parents or guardians and manage patient workflow.
- Coordinate Hospital Cases for scheduling and billing, working closely with providers, hospital OR scheduling, team, residents and Dental Chief.
- Patient registration, entering demographics, verifying insurance and patient consultation.
- Arrange patient referrals and escort to internal clinics for treatment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
(Hourly Rate: $16.00 - $26.00)
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years office/clerical experience in customer service, call center, physician office or other clinical environment required.
Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills; excellent customer service and communication skills required. Must:
(1) Attend all required course work assigned by management;
(2) Possess basic knowledge of medical terminology and advanced knowledge of PC applications, software, and database management;
(3) Be able to perform math & bookkeeping skills;
(4) Possess exceptional telephone & customer service skills; and
(5) Be knowledgeable of English grammar & punctuation. Business Office Education or similar coursework preferred. Currently certified as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) preferred.
