Position Summary:
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an Editorial Manager for the UAB Medicine/Heersink School of Medicine Advancement team. The primary responsibility of this position is to serve as the lead writer and editor for the UAB Medicine/Heersink School of Medicine Advancement team. This position plays a critical role in creating engaging, informative content for donors including proposals, impact reports, and materials that advance philanthropic relationships. The Editorial Manager will collaborate with the Office of Advancement, development officers, faculty, designers, and other University personnel to translate the Heersink School of Medicine’s priorities into persuasive, accurate, and compelling written content.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Constituent Engagement within the Heersink School of Medicine.

This position is full-time, hybrid eligible after the probationary period.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
• Researches, writes, and manages the editorial review process for personalized major gift proposals and stewardship/impact reports for donors and prospects across the Heersink School of Medicine.
• Develops, writes and oversees production for other fundraising and marketing collateral, including annual reports, appeals, one-pagers, brochures, website copy, and special project materials.
• Partners with a graphic designer to align creative direction on select projects, ensuring that photography and design enhance and support the content.
• Conducts interviews with faculty, students, alumni, and campus partners to gather accurate and compelling content.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Pay Range: $50,050 – $70,000

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or related field, along with a minimum of five (5) years in publishing, writing, and editing. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirements.

Preferences:
• Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with AP Style preferred.
• Excellent project and time management skills.
• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, quality, and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues across the organization.
