Job Summary
The Human Resources Partner (HRP) Manager independently manages comprehensive human resources services for the School of Public Health, a large and complex academic unit. This role serves as the primary HR leader and strategic partner to School leadership, including the Dean and senior administrative executives, while coordinating closely with the Office of Human Resources.
The HRP Manager leads and integrates recruitment, compensation, benefits, employee relations, training, workforce planning, and compliance activities in a fast-paced academic environment. This position functions as the first point of contact for all HR Partner–related matters within the school and ensures alignment with UAB policies, employment law, and institutional standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Serves as the primary Human Resources Partner for the School of Public Health, acting as the front-line advisor to department administrators and leadership on HR matters.
Collaborates with the Dean, executive leadership, and Central Human Resources to strategically plan and manage HR operations for academic and non-academic employees.
Leads and oversees all aspects of recruitment, selection, and hiring, including faculty and staff searches; may serve as faculty relations liaison.
Administers and interprets human resources policies related to employment, compensation, benefits, employee relations, performance management, and workforce planning.
Serves as the liaison between the School of Public Health and the Office of Human Resources for all HR-related matters.
Ensures departmental compliance with University HR policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Provides guidance on employee relations, including performance issues, corrective action, conflict resolution, and workplace concerns in coordination with Central HR and Employee Relations.
Develops, maintains, and implements standard operating procedures (SOPs) aligned with UAB policy and ensures timely dissemination of HR updates and changes.
Directs and communicates HR initiatives, compliance updates, and operational changes to leadership and staff.
Supports equity, workforce planning, and organizational effectiveness initiatives within the school.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
Ten (10) years of related human resources experience required.
Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting academic or healthcare organizations
Experience partnering with executive leadership (Dean, VP, CIO, or equivalent)
Knowledge of faculty and staff employment processes, compensation, and employee relations
Experience in policy implementation, compliance, and SOP development
