Position Summary:
This position serves as the primary contact for general facility and equipment conditions of over fifteen (15) food venues across campus hosting over 300,000 customers annually. In conjunction with their supervisor, Director of Student Housing and Dining Facilities, this position is responsible for the management of these venues comprising approximately 200,000 square feet of space and over $20 million in annual sales through our third-party vendor. This position also serves on the leadership team primarily responsible for approximately 3400 student's safety, security, and comfort related to physical facilities and systems; in conjunction with their supervisor, Director of Student Housing and Dining Facilities, this position is responsible for the management of a significant amount of square footage, approximately 1,120,000 sq ft between six residence halls' in addition to the above Dining Facilities square footage.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Provide oversight and training of professional housing facilities staff centered around skill acquisition and quality of completed work and service improvements. Coordinate with UAB Campus Maintenance and third-party vendors for daily upkeep, operation, cleanliness, and appearance of all on-campus dining facilities.
2. Make recommendations for necessary repairs, renovations, and capital expenditures. Interview, train, assist with evaluation, and supervise full-time and student facility support personnel.
3. Serve as on-call maintenance contact for all Campus Dining staff.
4. Perform routine health safety inspections of Campus Dining venues.
5. Maintain and monitor electronic work request system to assist, log, and address daily maintenance issues.
6. Prepare and maintain regular reports of work completed, average completion times, repairs/projects pending and status, and explanations for long lead items.
7. Ensure that students and dining clients are satisfied with the level and thoroughness of work completed. Many of the most important decisions required in this position revolve around supervision, scheduling, efficiency/effectiveness evaluation, effective communication and training of professional and student staff personnel. Other decisions relate to using independent judgment to assess and resolve facility mechanical issues that are compromised, inoperable, or in various states of disrepair.
8. Assistant Director will have autonomy in determining the appropriate and most expeditious means to resolve the facility or equipment issue as they arise and work with campus and/or third-party vendors to schedule and address the issue until thoroughly accurately addressed.
9. While not directly responsible for fiscal resources or large capital projects, this position will provide input into decision-making regarding the coordination of fiscal allocation between university and non-university entities (e.g., campus maintenance, campus dining operations, and food service contractor).
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Pay Range: $52,555 – $60,000
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Business Management, Student Personnel Administration, Public Administration or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Licenses / Certifications / Registrations:
Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current guidelines include possession of a valid driver's license issued in the United States, at least 21 years of age and at least 3 years of driving experience. Must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
