Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Cell, Developmental, & Integrative Biology, is seeking a skilled Researcher Senior to join their team. This position will focus on investigating the molecular mechanism that link chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Specifically, the role of the ST6Gal1 sialyltransferase in acinar to ductal metaplasia.
As a Researcher Senior, you will have expanded responsibilities, overseeing complex or multiple research projects and providing strategic direction. This professional-level role involves mentoring junior researchers, managing project budgets, and ensuring the integrity and quality of research outcomes. Your expertise will be critical in guiding experimental design, data interpretation, and contributing to high-impact publications. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Performs basic theoretical and experimental scientific and technological investigation directed toward the acquisition of new knowledge.
Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results, including technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses.
Publishes activities, findings and conclusions in recognized scientific publications and presents same at appropriate scientific conferences and forums.
Documents research leading to patent disclosure or technical and/or scientific advancement.
Responsibilities are within the Research Function as a highly skilled generalist or in a combination of related disciplines.
Provides advanced and specialized expertise, typically developed through a combination of job-related training and considerable work experience.
Proposes improvements to processes.
May act as a project or team lead, coordinating and facilitating the tasks of others.
Performs a variety of the most complex tasks.
Analyzes the most complex technical problems and delivers solutions where precedent may not exist.
Solves complex problems of recurring nature.
Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research participant contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $ 60,835- $ 70,000
Qualifications
Qualifications
Doctorate degree in a related field OR Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
PhD in a biological science preferred.
Experience working in a research lab preferred.
