Position Summary
The Human Resources Consultant performs HR duties at the professional level to support assigned customer units across UAB. This role serves as the primary HR point-of-contact for leaders, staff, and faculty, providing professional guidance and support in employment, employee relations, benefits, and compensation. The HR Consultant partners with HR Specialists to interpret and communicate HR policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure compliance, operational efficiency, and a positive employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
· Serve as the primary HR resource for assigned units
· Interpret employment laws and UAB policies to guide compliant decision-making
· Support the full cycle hiring process in collaboration with Talent Acquisition and Compensation
· Provide guidance on employee relations, performance management, and documentation
· Work with HR Centers of Expertise (Compensation, HRIS, Benefits, Payroll, Employee Relations) to resolve issues accurately and timely
· Support organization-wide HR initiatives, policy updates, and system changes
· Use HR data to identify trends and recommend improvements
Qualifications
Qualifications
Required:
· Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field
· Five (5) years of related Human Resources experience
· Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement
Preferred:
· HR certification (PHR, aPHRi, SHRM-CP/SCP, etc.)
· Higher education or complex organizational HR experience
· Knowledge of HR systems and employment-law compliance
