The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), an NCAA DI institution and member of the American, is seeking an Associate Athletic Director for Communications. The successful candidate will report to the Deputy Athletic Director for External Affairs. Job duties include developing a strategic communications plan for the Department of Athletics, overseeing efforts of communications staff, developing relationships with local, regional and national media outlets, serving as spokesperson for program on issues of significance and coordinating social media strategy and polices for the Department of Athletics. The Associate Athletics Director for Communications will also serve as the primary communications contact for Football and other assigned programs. To serve as member of Athletics Department management team. To manage assigned unit within the Athletics Department.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists department management in the routine operations of the Athletics Department.
Manage operating budget for assigned unit. - May serve as liaison for athletics to various departments on campus. May represent the department
at various functions and events. May serve as a game manager. May serve on committees within
the department and university. - Participates in the establishment of unit, department, or university-wide written plans, policies and
procedures. - Adheres to all institution, conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
Reports all known NCAA violations in accordance with institutional, conference and NCAA policies
and guidelines. - Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $63,875.00 - $90,176.64
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education experience.
Preferred:
- Degree in communications, sports administration, public relations, or related field
- Master’s degree
- Five (5) years of relevant experience in communications, preferably with a college athletic program or professional sports team.
