Description
The Math Tutor will provide professional one-on-one tutoring and academic support to program participants to enhance their understanding and success in math courses. This position plays an essential role in fostering student learning, promoting academic confidence, and ensuring participants achieve measurable progress toward their academic goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide individualized, professional math tutoring sessions to program participants.
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise math tutors as needed.
- Ensure the use of Appreciative Tutoring techniques to promote student engagement and success.
- Document and record all tutoring sessions in the project database accurately and promptly.
- Monitor participants’ academic progress, reviewing early alerts and collaborating with faculty as necessary.
- Maintain ongoing communication with Math faculty and track student progress using departmental databases.
- Demonstrate accessibility and availability to each assigned participant.
- Manage and monitor tutoring resources responsibly, ensuring proper use of tutoring funds.
- Maintain thorough documentation of all tutoring sessions and related student services.
- Prepare and submit term and annual reports summarizing tutoring activities and outcomes.
- Exhibit a proactive and supportive attitude, going the extra mile to help students succeed academically.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment for all participants.
- Oversee tutoring sessions and ensure adequate academic support resources are available.
Pay Rate: $20 per hour
Schedule: Varies based on student schedules and candidate availability. Hours are limited to Monday–Friday, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Previous experience tutoring or teaching math subjects at the secondary or postsecondary level.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
- Commitment to student development, academic excellence, and equitable learning environments.
