Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Neurosurg-Laboratory Research, is seeking a skilled Researcher to join their team. The individual in this role will support cancer-focused research projects in a wet lab environment with moderate supervision. The Researcher will be assigned a defined project focused on cancer under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) and will work closely with a senior research scientist to carry out complex laboratory experiments, analyze data, and contribute to scientific publications and grant applications. This role requires dedication to the lab's research mission, demonstrated technical competence, attention to detail, initiative, people skills, and the ability to troubleshoot experiments and adapt protocols.
As a Researcher, you will play a key role in driving scientific discovery by independently leading and executing research projects. This professional-level position demands a high degree of expertise and judgement in designing studies, analyzing data, and may involve assistants in publishing findings. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage project timelines, and contribute to grant writing and securing funding for future research. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Independently performs complex molecular and cellular biology experiments (e.g., PCR, Western blotting, flow cytometry) using cultured cancer cells, mice and patient specimens.
Assists in experimental design and contributes to protocol development and optimization.
Collects, analyzes, and interprets research data using statistics; prepares data for presentations, publications, and grant submissions.
Maintains accurate and detailed lab records and ensures data integrity.
Collaborates with senior lab members and provides technical guidance to junior researchers or students.
Ensures compliance with UAB safety regulations, biosafety protocols, IACUC and IRB guidelines and institutional research policies.
Assists with general lab maintenance, inventory, ordering and equipment troubleshooting.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $ 50,050- $ 81,330
Qualifications
Qualifications
Master's degree in a related field OR Bachelor's degree in related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Associate's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required or High School diploma or GED and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
Experience in cancer biology and signaling, animal models for cancer, or related biomedical research.
Proficiency in wet lab techniques and data analysis
