Position Summary:
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Writer for the Office of Advancement. This position is responsible for writing and editing print and digital content in alignment with style, tone and brand guidelines. The incumbent will need to be an excellent storyteller who is comfortable writing in a variety of tones to appeal to our various audiences, including alumni, donors and the general public. This position works closely with other members of the Office of Advancement, other University personnel and community members.
This position reports directly to the Director of Communications.
This position is full-time, hybrid eligible after the probationary period.
General Responsibilities:
Plans and writes Advancement-related content for University publications, websites, emails, newsletters, presentations, video, and social media, including but not limited to donor and alumni feature stories, Q&As, email appeals, stewardship video scripts and press releases
Uses dashboard analytics to measure effectiveness of content through engagement and conversions
Assists with web content management and email production and scheduling
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, performs research, writing, editing, and production tasks.
Prepares publication(s) for printing; coordinates design, content, layout, publication and distribution of newsletters, magazines, video and informational/promotional materials.
Proofs copy and approves photography, illustrations and graphics.
Obtains client and printer concurrence.
Provides technical and topical consultation.
Produces audio, video and broadcast media materials.
Maintains master information files and databases.
Assists in identifying potential markets and promoting department services and capabilities.
Makes presentations as required.
Assists with design and production of special assignments.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Pay Range: $47,665 – $77,455
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
