The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Neurobiology, is seeking a dedicated Researcher Associate to join their team.
General Responsibilities
As a Researcher Associate, this intermediate-level position will require you to independently conduct more complex studies and analyses, contributing to the advancement of research projects. With greater autonomy, you will design experiments, interpret data, and collaborate with senior researchers to develop and refine research protocols. Your role may also include mentoring junior staff and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
Runs behavioral pharmacology experiments in rats/mice, including operant conditioning, pain assessments, and locomotion assays.
Performs surgical procedures in rodents.
Maintains transgenic rodent colonies.
Collects biological samples from rodents.
Performs histology and microscopic imaging on rodent brain tissue.
Collects, enter, analyze, and graph data according to established lab protocols.
Monitors results; detects and reports unusual outcomes; performs statistical data analysis.
Orders lab supplies and maintains inventory; maintains lab equipment, general cleanliness and organization; performs other duties as assigned.
Reconciles lab expenditures; interfaces with UAB Purchasing and Procurement to satisfy requirements for equipment and supply expenditures; maintains records for quotes, invoices, and receipts; reviews UAB and external invoices for accuracy.
Works with BSL2 viruses for stereotaxic delivery to rodent brain according to established SOPs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Hourly Range $19.80 -$23.56
Qualifications
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
Prior experience with rodent handling and/or behavior, histology and microscopy, and/or coding are preferred.
Prior experience with transgenic rodent colony management, management of other personnel, and/or experience managing large data sets is desired.
Previous experience in a basic science lab is preferred.
