As an Electrician Master in UAB Hospital Maintenance-Facilities, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of electrical and fire alarm systems within the hospital, while demonstrating a strong commitment to excellent customer service.

This position involves a combination of advanced electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, fire alarm testing, and installation work to meet hospital standards, codes, and compliance requirements. Key Responsibilities:

Operations & Maintenance

· Performs advanced electrical and fire alarm installations, maintenance, and repairs.

· Troubleshoots and resolves electrical and fire alarm system issues.

· Manages documentation and reports for inspections, certifications, and maintenance schedules.

Compliance & Safety

· Ensures compliance with safety regulations, hospital policies, and electrical codes.

· Coordinates and leads fire alarm testing to meet regulatory standards.

· Attends safety meetings and required training sessions.

Leadership & Support

· Trains, mentors, and oversees electricians to support skill development and adherence to standards.

· Serves as a resource for technical expertise within the electrical group.

Qualifications

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and six (6) years of related experience is required. Associates degree OR

technical diploma in Electrical Systems, Electrical Technology or a related field is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations

  • State of Alabama (or reciprocal state) Master Card and NICET FAS II

  • City of Birmingham Journeyman license or Master Card prior to employment

  • ASHE Health Care Physical Environment Worker Certification required within six months of employment.

  • Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current guidelines include possession of a valid driver's license issued in the United States, at least 21 years of age and at least 3 years of driving experience. Must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Strong knowledge of electrical systems, circuits, and troubleshooting techniques.

· Must have good communication and interpersonal skills

· Must be able to manage work orders, using a handheld device

· Ability to work an on-call work schedule

· Must be able to work independently

· Ability to recognize the rights and responsibilities of patient confidentiality

· Must be able to communicate effectively with people from every socioeconomic, cultural and educational background; exhibit flexibility and cope effectively in an ever-changing, fast-paced healthcare environment

· Ability to perform effectively when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual or dangerous situations

· Must be able to maintain a customer focus and strive to satisfy the customer's perceived needs.

· Required to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the essential duties and responsibilities that require performing tasks requiring wearing respirator and other personal protective equipment, such as self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) (requires facial being clean shaven for fitting) to include:

o Lifting and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.

o Climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and working at heights above thirty (30) feet.

o Performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.

o Working in a healthcare environment

o Working in confined spaces.

o Working within extreme temperature ranges.

Pay Information:
Full pay range for the classification: $32.70 - $39.90 - $49.90

Starting offers will not necessarily begin at the midpoint or maximum of the range. Offers are determined by: relevant experience (both UAB/UAB Medicine and external), pay grade minimums, internal equity, departmental budget, UAB salary guidelines, and the salaries of incumbents in the classification.

Work Schedule: Incumbent must have flexibility due to on-call requirements. Position is designated as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, regardless of the University’s closure. Employees should be prepared to travel to work during inclement weather, emphasizing the importance of their role in critical situations.
