The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Cell, Developmental, & Integrative Biology, is seeking a skilled and experienced Researcher to join their team. Under minimal/moderate supervision, to set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals. To collect, enter and summarize data. To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.
General Responsibilities
As a Researcher, you will play a key role in driving scientific discovery by independently leading and executing research projects. This professional-level position demands a high degree of expertise and judgement in designing studies, analyzing data, and may involve assistants in publishing findings. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage project timelines, and contribute to grant writing and securing funding for future research. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
Runs cell culture, genotyping, flow cytometry, isolation of primary cells, and perform immunohistochemistry and immunohistofluorescence.
Handle human peripheral blood samples and human tissues. Maintain mouse colony.
Work with undergraduate and graduate students to assist with completion of in vitro and in vivo experiments for publications.
Collects, enters, and summarizes data.
Monitors results; detects and reports unusual outcomes.
Assists in the maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment and supplies.
Performs basic statistical data analysis.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Range $ 50,050- $ 60,000
Qualifications
Qualifications
Master's degree in a related field OR Bachelor's degree in related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Associate's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required or High School diploma or GED and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
Applicants must have a BS or higher degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, or a closely related field upon starting the position.
Lab experience is required.
On the job training is available, but candidates with prior experience with cell culture and molecular biology techniques such as RNA and protein extraction, quantitative real-time PCR, immunoblotting, and flow cytometry are preferred.
Prior experience with the production of human sample and mouse colony management and/or isolation of primary cells is desired.
Previous experience in a basic science lab is preferred.
