Pay Range: $104,185 - $234,420 / year

Job Description:
UAB Medicine is seeking an experienced, dynamic leader to serve as Associate Vice President of Perioperative Services. This role provides executive oversight for a comprehensive, two-campus surgical platform encompassing 50+ operating rooms within one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers. Our surgical enterprise delivers highly complex, tertiary-level care including Level I Trauma, transplant, neurosurgery, and advanced vascular services. In addition to the OR platform, this position has leadership responsibility for Preop, PACU, and Central Sterile Services, ensuring excellence and integration across the full continuum of perioperative care.
We are seeking a visionary perioperative leader with extensive OR operations expertise and a proven track record in change management, process optimization, and team development. The successful candidate will bring an innovative, collaborative approach to advancing surgical services in support of UAB Medicine’s mission to deliver world-class patient care, education, and discovery.
To direct, integrate and coordinate all activities needed to support the delivery of quality, cost effective services of Perioperative Services for UAB Medicine to include North Pavilion, Highlands Perioperative Services, Central Sterile Supply (Inpatient and Ambulatory), Perioperative Education, Scheduling and Quality Improvement. To serve as a line manager for assigned hospital-based functions and liaison with other areas as appropriate.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Directs operations and assigned personnel of the Perioperative Services areas of North Pavilion, Highlands, Central Sterile Supply, Perioperative Education, Scheduling and Quality Improvement. Selects, develops and counsels staff consistent with human resource management practices and policies. Ensures continuing education for staff and that appropriate credentials are maintained. Evaluates, disciplines and discharges staff.
Plans, develops and implements a strategic plan that emphasizes a common vision and joint planning with the overall hospital strategic plan. Receives input from and concurrence of representatives from medical staff, nursing, marketing, finance and joint ventures.
Devises and implements appropriate reporting relationships. Works with various hospital personnel to develop, analyze and report information needed on a regular basis or to meet special information needs.
Plans, prepares, implements, monitors and controls the operational and capital budgets to ensure sound fiscal management consistent with the goals of the hospital. Consolidates services in order to Page 2 of 3 achieve economies of scale and optimize resource utilization. Coordinates acquisition and development of new technologies for quality and cost effectiveness.
Develops objectives to evaluate quality of the service provided. Assists in the development of standards of care policies and procedures; evaluates staffing mix. Implements uniform clinical pathways, case management and quality measures.
Collaborates with various departments and organizations, internal and external, to develop and implement marketing strategies for new and/or current services.
Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards of care in assigned areas and compliance with all regulations regarding provision of services.
Performs other duties assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Nursing with Master's degree in Nursing or related field and seven (7) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
