General Responsibilities:
Under close supervision and according to established policies and procedures, maintains animal colony and laboratory facilities in an orderly and sanitary condition. Administers special diets and drugs for experimental purposes as directed. Moves equipment and supplies in and around university departments, and performs laboratory housekeeping duties. This entry level position is the first year of the two-year apprenticeship program. The program provides supervised work experience and classroom training toward competence in caring for research animals of different species and specialized colonies. Emphasis during this first year is on small (rodents and lagomorphs) animals but may also be trained in the care of larger animals. Training for American Association for Laboratory Animal Science-AALAS certification as Assistant Laboratory Technician is given at this level.

Pay Range: This position is assigned to Wage Grade W.G275 (Job Code T070001) with a full Compensation - approved range of $15.00 – $22.75 hourly (midpoint $18.20).
Final offers will be made within this grade range based on the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, and the department’s budgeted amount for the role. Applicants whose stated salary expectations fall outside the posted grade range may not be considered.

High School diploma or GED required.
