Compensation:
Pay Range: $16.25 - $26.45 / hour

Job Description:
To understand the overall process in the assigned department and work with quality improvement initiatives. To provide services to any area that requires reprocessing of flexible scopes. To properly clean and disinfect flexible scopes and related instrumentation. To assemble and organize case carts for surgery. To operate all sterilization equipment, stock supplies and perform biological testing of sterilizers.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Cleans, disinfects, decontaminates and calibrates flexible scopes and/or other endoscopic instruments. Follows manufacturer’s instructions and applicable departmental policies to ensure proper care and handling of all flexible scopes.
2. Properly loads flexible scopes in the appropriate sterilizer/highly disinfectant machine to ensure processing adheres to manufacturer’s recommended procedures for device.
3. Packages flexible scopes and related instruments for sterilization using the appropriate chemical indicators.
4. Maintains inventory of flexible scopes. Performs regular safety check to verify proper functioning of equipment. Appropriately initiates repairs as needed.
5. Assembles trays for surgical cases in a timely and accurate manner according to case type. Unloads cart washer and loads and unloads sterilizers.
6. Follows all established guidelines, policies and procedures of UAB Hospital and the department.
7. Serves as a role model in the skills of coaching and mentoring of new employees.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) or Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) required within eighteen (18) months of hire.
