Pay Range: $50,050 - $81,330 / year

Job Description
To assess nutrition status, develop, implement, and monitor nutrition interventions to achieve medical nutrition therapy goals and desired outcomes, provide nutrition education and counseling, and document all nutrition intervention in the medical record. To precept dietetic interns, participate in quality improvement activities, and participate in multidisciplinary team activities and medical rounds as schedule allows.
1. Assesses patient’s nutrition status based on medical diagnosis, prescribed medical treatment,
nutrition history, and physical examination as appropriate. Develops and implement nutrition
intervention with medical nutrition therapy, including, but not limited to, prescribed diets, dietary or
oral supplementation, and enteral or parenteral nutrition therapy, in order to achieve individualized
nutrition goals. Monitors, evaluates, and reassesses nutrition status, and adjust nutrition intervention
and goals as needed. Documents all nutrition assessment and reassessment in the medical record
in a professional and timely manner.
2. Educates and counsels patient and/or caregiver, healthcare personnel, and community
representatives on disease-specific diet therapy, nutrition-related topics, and/or designated drug, nutrient interactions.
3. Participates in departmental, multidisciplinary, and/or hospital committees and in multidisciplinary
medical team activities such as team meetings and medical rounds as schedule permits.
4. Communicates and collaborates with food service staff to ensure optimal provision and delivery of
food and nutrition services.
5. Precepts dietetic interns from the UAB Dietetic Internship program and students from other area
dietetic internships or coordinated programs.
6. Participates in quality improvement activities.
7. Follows all applicable hospital and professional standards, policies and procedures
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Medical Dietetics or related field required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. If licensed prior to 12/31/2023 a Bachelor’s degree in human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or food systems management required. If licensed after 01/01/2024 a Master’s degree in human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or nutrition education required.
