Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Pulmonary/Allergy/Critical Care Department, is seeking a Clinical Research Administrator II to join their team.

This position will work as part of a team of research finance professionals with an emphasis on Human Subjects Research, including clinical trials in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine.

Pre-Award Activities: Collaborate with Principal Investigators to prepare and submit grant proposals to the Office of Sponsored Programs and external sponsors, including industry, federal, and foundation entities. Develop, review, and negotiate budgets for new and amended clinical trials, ensuring alignment with sponsor requirements and institutional policies.

Post-Award Management: Oversee assigned divisional accounts including clinical trials billing, ensure proper accounting for grant, contract, and revenue accounts. Provide ongoing financial analysis, including monitoring expenditures and making recommendations to maintain fiscal stability. Assist in developing and administering budgets, and ensuring adherence to financial policies and procedures. Prepare and present financial statements and reports to Faculty and upper management on a regular or as-requested basis.

General Responsibilities

  • To demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of contract principles, federal regulations, laws and UAB policy and operating procedures.
  • To serve as liaison to the UAB Offices of Industry Engagement and Sponsored Programs in negotiation of confidentiality agreements (CDAs), contracts, and amendments related to the conduct of clinical research activities.
  • To identify conflicts of interest, legal, IP and business/financial risk.
  • To maintain familiarity with appropriate Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and regulations.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Serves as liaison to the UAB Offices of Industry Engagement and Sponsored Programs in negotiating confidentiality agreements (CDAs), contracts, and amendments related to the conduct of clinical research activities.
  2. Identifies and mitigates business/financial risk through working with physicians/faculty, divisions, legal and/or other Departments.
  3. Assists in preparing, developing, reviewing and negotiating industry and sponsored research clinical trial budgets for consistency with UAB policies and operating procedures.
  4. Identifies and obtains funding sufficient to successfully execute clinical research as applicable.
  5. Conducts literature reviews.
  6. Assesses and determines solutions for operational shortcomings of protocols.
  7. Assists colleagues in identifying efficiencies and improving process.
  8. Assists in managing accounts across studies as needed.
  9. Works with sponsors/study team to arrange required trainings and meetings.
  10. Assists in formulating and implementing the goals for the operation of the research program.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $47,665 - $61,965

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Oracle Finance and HR systems, with a willingness to learn BA software.
  • Strong self-motivation, excellent time management, and effective communication skills.
