CLINICAL RESEARCH COORDINATOR II - (T225421)

Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Family and Community Medicine, is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator II. This position will provide essential support for social science projects and conduct human subject study activities. Dr. Yan uses behavioral science methods such as surveys and interviews to improve health decision making and patient-provider communication. Areas of clinical focus include genetic testing, cancer, and pediatric life support. The focus for the next few years is an NCI-funded clinical trial that tests the effect of educational materials on genetic testing uptake for people at risk for Lynch syndrome. Manage projects for Dr. Yan and assist with day-to-day needs. Perform study activities. Work with research assistants. Provide training to new members of the team.

General Responsibilities

  • To serve as coordinator for studies and provide support to other team members within the confines of the protocol as directed.
  • To support screening and participant eligibility determination, working with more senior team members to ensure compliance.
  • To conduct activities in accordance with the protocol, regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • To assist with the study life cycle from start-up to closure, i.e., collecting and recording data, recruiting and performing follow-up with participants, scheduling visits and assisting in coordination of lab and fieldwork.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Initiates, modifies, amends, and conducts continuing reviews of IRB protocols.
  2. Develops and updates Manuals of Operation for studies.
  3. Constructs data collection instruments using tools such as REDCap and Qualtrics.
  4. Collaborates with the Electronic Health Record team and clinicians to identify eligible participants.
  5. Screens, recruits, consents, schedules, and follows up with patients and their families in accordance with protocol and human subject research rules.
  6. Collects data and monitors data collection progress.
  7. Processes compensation payment for research participants (Clincard).
  8. Maintains meticulous paper and electronic records and documentation throughout the research cycle.
  9. Assists the PI with basic qualitative and quantitative data analysis and manuscript writing.
  10. Assists the PI in preparing reports for routine meetings and for the funder.
  11. Conducts training for new team members, such as research assistants, and may supervise individuals along with the PI.
  12. Participates in professional development for self.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Salary Range: $50,050 - $81,330

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of human subject research experience, preferably clinical trials experience, and is comfortable interacting with patients and their families.
  • Familiar with both survey and interview methods and basic data analysis, and tools such as REDCap and Qualtrics.
  • Organized, show attention to detail, quick to learn, and have exceptional follow-through abilities for research and administrative tasks.
  • Familiar with and can successfully navigate UAB research-related systems, such as IRAP and OnCORE.
  • Willing to commit at least 2-3 years to this position.
