Position Summary:
As a Researcher Assistant, you will contribute to the daily operations of research projects under the close supervision of experienced researchers. This role involves performing standard research tasks, including sample processing, basic data analysis, and maintaining accurate records. Your support will be crucial in helping senior team members execute complex protocols and ensuring the smooth functioning of the lab. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research participant contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Contribute to the daily operations of research projects under the close supervision of experienced researchers. This role involves performing standard research tasks, including sample processing, basic data analysis, and maintaining accurate records. Support senior team members execute complex protocols and ensuring the smooth functioning of the lab. Adhere strictly to the rearing protocol and dosing methods of the protocols to treat CF disease in utero prior to birth and during the early post-natal period diabetes in CF ferret models.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform feeding of special diet to ferrets, administer medications (orally, IP, IM), and daily monitoring.
- Closely manage and monitor new genetically engineered ferrets after birth,which may include weight management, glucose injection and food supplements.
- Perform routine measures, tests, and/or assays following established protocols and procedures. General lab maintenance, ordering supplies, cleaning/disinfecting surgical instruments and preparing lab supplies (syringes, needles, etc).
- Collect, record, and analyze research data with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Monitor and take care of post-operative ferrets, may perform necropsy and tissue harvesting.
- Assist with blood glucose measurement and blood/stool collection.
- Exhibits independence in adaptation when encountering methodological problems.
- Monitor CF Ferret heath status and preform treatments as necessary.
- Applies scientific principles to the solution of critical issues; evaluating approaches to unforeseen problems.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Salary Range: $16.50 - $21.45
Qualifications
Associate's degree in a related field OR High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
