Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an ASSISTANT DIRECTOR-STUDENT AFFAIRS to provide support managing the activities related to student admission, student registration, student records, student recruitment, student life, student success and student wellness.
Responsibilities:
1. Manages the activities of the admissions office and registrar functions of the school in conjunction with the Student Affairs Director.
2. Works in conjunction with the Student Affairs Director to: answer admissions questions; send, receive, and process applications; approves applications for interviews or denies admissions according to policies; prepare applications for further review; ensures that background checks of new admits are acceptable.
3. Determine missing admissions requirements for admitted students, monitor for completion.
4. Responsible for WebAdmit tasks to include updating applicant status in WebAdmit.
5. Manages student applicant services including scheduling on-site visits, interviews and orientation.
6. Works in conjunction with the Student Affairs Director to maintain academic curriculum records for student registration system.
7. Manages, in conjunction with the Student Affairs Director, student transcripts, generate internal records, monitor student academic achievement to ensure that policies regarding, progression, and graduation are being met.
8. Provides general oversight, in conjunction with the Student Affairs Director and Student Recruiter, efforts to ensure student recruitment activities are robust enough to meet the school's admission needs and growth. This includes maintaining strong relationships with other universities who serve as an applicant pool.
9. Travel as needed to undergraduate schools to make recruitment presentations, attend recruitment events, and meet with pre-optometry organizations.
10. Responsible for identifying shifting trends related to the student applicant pool.
11. Work closely with UAB's Financial Aid Department to provide applicants and students with financial aid information.
12. Responsible for effectively communicating policies and procedures to faculty, staff and students
13. Develops and manages the department budget. Responsible for review of all departmental expenditures to ensure appropriateness, reasonableness, and if within budgetary limits.
14. Reconciles and projects tuition income, fee income, and deposits.
15. Review staff time keeping system and travel receipts.
16. Maintain National Board of Examination in Optometry passage rate records and update SO website per accreditation requirements.
17. Works in conjunction with the Student Affairs Director to ensure surveys required by the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) are completed, accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
18. Manage the SO Student Emergency Account and process Student Emergency Loan Applications.
19. Manage the various scholarship award processes. Maintain student merit and leadership scholarship awards records, and coordinate activities with the SO Awards Selection Committee Chairperson.
20. Counsel enrolled SO students with advanced academic and personal difficulties.
21. Provide general oversight for the department's special events .
22. Supervise support staff to include hiring, training, scheduling, assignment of work, discipline/discharge and performance evaluation. Supervise work study students.
23. Performs other duties as assigned.
(Annual Salary: $57,940 - $94,150)
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
