Researcher II
The Duran Lab is hiring a lab manager! We're a collegial and inclusive group in the Chemistry Department at UAB, studying mammalian RNA helicases involved in gene regulatory mechanisms. The Researcher II's responsibilities include administrative tasks (e.g., safety, compliance, lab organization, ordering, maintaining lab inventory, etc.) and original research, including the opportunity to conduct independent experiments and co-author journal publications. We're looking for a smart, hard-working, responsible, organized, meticulous, and affable candidate to begin the job at the start of the new year (January 6th start is preferred, but dates are somewhat flexible). The position is full-time, but the schedule is flexible and could accommodate other commitments (e.g., caregiver responsibilities and volunteering outside the lab). The position is an excellent fit for someone seeking 1-3 years of research experience in preparation for medical school, graduate school, or industry job applications.
General Responsibilities
Under minimal supervision:
- To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
- To collect, enter, and summarize data.
- To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.
Hourly Salary Range $15.50 - $23.51
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences
A college degree (B.S. or B.A.) in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or a related field plus one year of lab experience.
