Description
- Fabricates precision components and/or instruments to high quality standards from a variety of materials (stainless steel, tool steel, aluminum, titanium, various plastics, etc.). Reads, understands and interprets blueprint and CAD drawings. Sets up, operates and maintains tool grinding machines, numerically and computer controlled machines, presses, lathes, milling machines, band saws, multi-purpose saws, grinders, drill presses, measuring instruments and other machine shop tools, machines and equipment. Identifies and fabricates any unique jigs, fixtures or tooling necessary to complete requested jobs.
- Develops and modifies layouts and computer-based CAD designs, repairs and/or makes modifications to precision instruments, machinery, apparatus, equipment components and sub-assemblies, drawings and schematics of machined parts, tools, for use in fabricating and performing machining operations.
- Supervises shop activities including scheduling, safety, and project completion; calibrates, maintains, and repairs shop equipment. Keeps shop environment safe and orderly.
- Provides technical information and assistance; conducts equipment and safety training; makes tooling, design, and materials recommendations for projects; keeps faculty and staff informed of changes, new procedures, and equipment status.
- Monitors supply levels and prepares purchase orders for supplies, parts, new equipment; conducts vendor research and evaluations; records time and materials usage fabricated for other departments.
- Updates knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate publications and by consulting with subject matter experts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
(Hourly Rate: $18.85 - $30.65)
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED and seven (7) years of related experience required.
