The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Surg-Gen Surg-Breast and Endocrine, is seeking a Researcher V. This position will focus on Molecular Biology research and Epigenetics. The lab studies pancreatic tumors and analyzes patient derived tissue samples to explore the influence on outcomes.

General Responsibilities

• To be responsible for the overall operation of the lab.
• To oversee projects within the lab.
• To contribute to the design, interpretation and writing of grant proposals and publications.
• To supervise a research team, direct and teach lab practices.
• To manage lab equipment and supplies.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Assumes significant responsibility for the overall operation of the lab.
2. Oversees projects within the laboratory.
3. Duty to supervise a research team as well as direct and teach lab practices.
4. Molecular Biotechnology (Cloning and Protein Purification).
5. Contributes to the design, interpretation, and writing of grant proposals and publications. Perform Enzymatic Analyses, data analyses, and figure preparation.
6. Conducts tissue culture and maintenance of tumor cell lines.
7. Monitors results, detects, and reports unusual outcomes, develops and implements modifications and provides reports or other consultation to management.
8. Creates and maintains laboratory databases on genotype/phenotype information.
9. Supervises and oversees maintenance of lab equipment and orders and supervises lab supplies.
10. Uses advanced knowledge of lab practices to direct and teach others by developing guidelines and conducting face-to-face/virtual training.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Salary Range $49,004.80 - $95,500.00

• Doctorate in a related field and one (1) year of related experience
• OR Master's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience
• OR Bachelor’s degree in related field and five (5) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

• Prior lab/researcher experience.
• Prior experience with molecular biology and epigenetics research preferred.
