Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Neurology's CNET division seeks to hire a Researcher V for the laboratory of Dr. Patricia Aguilar Calvo. The position will be responsible for overall laboratory management, mouse colony management, primary neuron culture, mouse surgeries, histopathology, and oversight of other researcher staff/students.

General Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the overall operation of the lab.
  • To oversee projects within the lab.
  • To contribute to the design, interpretation and writing of grant proposals and publications.
  • To supervise a research team, direct and teach lab practices.
  • To manage lab equipment and supplies.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Mouse colony management: breeding, weaning, ear notching, sacrifice, necropsy
  2. Histopathology (tissue cutting, immunofluorescence, immunocytochemistry, confocal imaging)
  3. Culture of primary neurons (isolation, quantification, and incubation of neurons)
  4. Laboratory management (including inventory, ordering, instrument maintenance, etc.)
  5. Supervising junior lab personnel.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Salary Range $49,004.80 - $95,500.00

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in a related field and one (1) year of related experience
  • OR Master's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in related field and five (5) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Experience working with mice and feel comfortable handling, ear notching, doing surgeries and sacrificing mice.
