Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Urology Chair Office, is seeking a Scientist I. The Scientist I will aid in the progression of a strong and well-funded research program focused on diet, immunity, and kidney stone disease. Will conduct basic science, translational, and clinical research. Animal breeding, maintaining colonies, and performing surgeries. Process human (blood and urine) samples.

General Responsibilities

  • To employ a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in a particular field of specialization.
  • To plan, coordinate and conduct research.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Conducts Basic Science, Translational, and Clinical Research.
  2. Breeds animals, maintains colonies, and performs surgeries.
  3. Processes Human (Blood and Urine) samples.
  4. Collects and interprets data in accordance with established procedures.
  5. Performs routine analyses and prepares reports in the prescribed format.
  6. Aids in the training of trainees and other research staff.
  7. Writes and edits manuscripts and abstracts as needed.
  8. Prepares data summaries using PowerPoint, etc.
  9. Presents research at local and national conferences.
  10. Maintains and orders lab supplies as needed.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Salary Range $63,125.00 - $73,000.00

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR M.D. and Master's degree.
  • OR Master's degree and four (4) years of related experience
  • OR Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Proficient with data management and a variety of software (Microsoft Office, Prism, etc.).
  • Specific training in immunology, mitochondrial biology, molecular biology, and oxalate research.
