The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Nursing Acute, Chronic & Continuing Care, is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator II.
This position supports and reports to the ORS Associate Dean, Director, Grant Regulatory and Review, and the Principal Investigators (PI) who have received Deans Scholar Award (DSA) grants or PIs of other small grants assigned. Under general PI supervision, this individual operates with a high degree of independence and is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the study programs including supporting program’s goals and objectives, providing administrative support (such as coordinating daily activities and scheduling), data collection, data entry, and literature searches. In collaboration with the Director, Grant Regulatory and Review, this individual coordinates the DSA program including developing, and maintaining program policies and announcements, presenting at informational forums, receiving, and processing applications, overseeing the scientific review process, preparing grant awardee letters, tracking DSA awardee progress toward project completion and reviews budgets, and assists with DSA grant closeout and reporting to Finance department regarding grant account set up and closeout. This individual will work with vulnerable populations, across multiple healthcare and community settings, and will have a high degree of interpersonal communication skills and organizational skills. This individual must be capable of setting and juggling multiple priorities. This individual is a general resource to other SON grant-funded CRCs and projects to orient and train them in overall study processes and procedures, as well as regulatory processes as requested by the ADR and other PIs.
General Responsibilities
- To serve as a liaison with medical staff, University Departments, ancillary departments and/or satellite facilities.
- To organize patient enrollment planning.
- To conduct quality assurance activities.
- To compile and analyze data.
- To develop and implement procedures, maintain records, track progress, and conduct quality assurance on data collected.
- To serve as a mentor to junior staff, including student assistants.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages day-to-day grant activities.
- Maintains a central calendar for study tracking and timelines.
- Collects and records preliminary data for clinical research programs.
- Recruits and performs follow-up with research participants as protocols outline.
- Schedules visits according to research protocols.
- Performs data entry, cleaning, and coding.
- Conducts inter-rater reliability, fidelity, audit, and cross-contamination checks of data.
- Schedule research staff meetings as identified by the PIs.
- Develops systems to coordinate, process, and track participant compensation.
- Orders and maintains supplies necessary to perform studies.
- Conducts/confirms follow-up visits with participants.
- Schedules data collection efforts including mailings.
- Compiles documents and equipment for use in data collection activities.
- Uses Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems necessary for operations.
- Coordinates with other employees' roles pertinent to the project.
- Screens, recruitments, consents, and enrolls prospective subjects; and performs data collection confidentially and according to secure procedures from electronic medical charts.
- Creates and organizes study files, data storage during study, and archives.
- Oversees the conduct, application, administration, review, and budgetary reporting processes of the DSA program.
- Orients/trains other CRCs in SON and general grant-related processes and procedures.
- Participates in education/training opportunities that facilitate this role.
- Facilitates compliance relative to University, School of Nursing, and sponsor policies, Office of Research and Scholarship within the School of Nursing and University policies and procedures; inclusive of ability to submit documents to IRB and monitor, and amend protocols as needed.
- Performs other related duties as directed to support the missions of the School of Nursing.

Annual Salary Range: $50,050 - $81,330
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in a health-related field (e.g., Public Health, Health Services/Administration, Nursing, Sociology, Gerontology or Psychology).
- The position requires a high degree of organizational skill and ability to work 40 hours per week that are flexible with participant scheduling.
- The position will work with vulnerable or ill populations.
- This position also requires proficiency with Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook), Oracle, IRAP, and Greenphire.
- The successful candidate should be flexible, self-motivated, professional, and possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- The individual must be detail-oriented, take initiative, and have professional accountability.
- CITI IRB training will be required upon hire.
- Well-developed communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required. The individual must be able to work independently and within a team environment. They must be able to be persistent, but professional in interacting with busy clinicians and participants.

Individual must adhere to all SON & UAB policies and procedures including but not limited to all FERPA and HIPAA regulations. All work performed must be in accordance with SON and UAB policies and procedures and UAB Enterprise Code of Conduct.
