Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Med - Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, is seeking a Researcher II. This position will be working to support the Basu Research Laboratory and may require weekend and night work for research studies.

General Responsibilities

Under minimal supervision:

  • To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter and summarize data.
  • To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Sets up and performs experiments and procedures in support of lab goals.
  2. In addition to general laboratory research, isotope work and HLCH mass spectrometry may be needed.
  3. Collects, enters, summarizes and analyzes data.
  4. Monitors results, detects and reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications.
  5. Develops and improves techniques for the lab and contributes to planning/design of studies.
  6. Performs maintenance of lab equipment and supplies.
  7. May assist in planning long or short-term goals/fiscal management.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Hourly Salary Range $15.50 - $23.51

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Bachelor’s in chemistry or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in isotope work and HPLC Mass Spectrometry preferred, but not required.
