Description

Position Summary:

Works in conjunction with other Marketing and Communications employees to take a story from concept to finished product and distribution, which includes but is not limited to posting to the web. Manages an analytic database to provide various media reports to Marketing and Communications constituents.

Promotes the University by preparing and editing news releases, feature articles and promotional materials. Coordinates and serves as spokesperson at press conferences and media briefings. Provides public relations guidance and topical instruction to internal and external organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Writes and edits news releases, feature articles, promotional materials and/or newsletters.
  • Determines most appropriate methods of compositions and distribution to maximize exposure.
  • Represents and promotes UAB at formal and informal functions.
  • Provides topical guidance and information to internal and external organizations.
  • Attends various committee/department meetings and other related conferences.
  • Serves as department spokesperson and responds to media requests for information and access to University personnel.
  • Schedules and conducts interviews; generates story ideas; coordinates photography sessions, takes photographs and produces news articles/features
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate publications, maintaining contact with news media personnel and attending related seminars and conferences.
  • Performs various administrative functions in support of department operations. In doing so, maintains department files, schedules speaking engagements and coordinates various special events as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $43,890 - $45,000

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
