The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB, Department of Nutrition Sciences Research, is seeking a Researcher II. The goal of the study is to gain insight into how individuals respond to food, in order to prevent and combat health conditions that are impacted by nutrition. The Nutrition for Precision Health study is a NIH Common Fund program consisting of three Modules with multiple recruitment sites across the country. This position will support recruitment of participants and coordination of study activities for Module 1 and Module 2. Module 1 is an observational study where we will collect measurements over 8-10 days to characterize an individual's dietary intake, nutritional status, and physiological responses following a meal challenge. Module 2 consists of three controlled dietary interventions, each provided for 14-days. This position will assist with biospeciman processing, managing lab supplies, shipping samples, and data entry.
General Responsibilities
Under minimal supervision:
- To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
- To collect, enter and summarize data.
- To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Processes biospeciman samples collected during clinic visit, this will include blood, urine, saliva, stool, hair and nails.
- Centrifuges and aliquots blood samples.
- Aliquots urine and saliva samples.
- Processes stool samples by scanning into the receiving system and transferring to the freezer.
- Manages stock of lab supplies and submit orders as needed.
- Data entry into electronic data systems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Hourly Salary Range $15.50 - $23.51
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
- OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
