Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an ACADEMIC ADVISOR III to select academic advising practices that support student success. To create and maintain a safe, equitable and inclusive environment that is responsive to the needs of an increasingly diverse student population. To have an advanced network of cross-campus relationships and resources. To assist academic unit with the interpretation of institutional regulations, policies, offerings and procedures. To create education plans that are consistent with students' aspirations, interests, strengths and values. To implement personal philosophy of academic advising and utilize multiple advising techniques and styles. To create rapport and maintain relationships with expert level of ability. To adapt academic advising approaches to meets the needs of a diverse student population. To deliver training to advisors within unit. To develop new programming and methods for working with students. To provide leadership within department/unit and UAB community.
- Supports student success in all activities. Including selection of academic advising practices and creating a supportive environment for students. Communicates policies to students effectively, assists in student advisor training events, provides resources to students and other school constituents as needed.
- Supports school, department and university policies and procedures; is familiar with UAB's student policies, practices and codes of conduct.
- Builds and maintain cross-departmental and cross-campus relationships with other academic advisors and student services personnel to support students.
- Continues professional development in academic advising and student services to keep abreast of changes and cultural nuances that will best help our students.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
(Annual Salary: $46,530 - $75,615)
Qualifications
Master's degree in Counseling, Education or a related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
