Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Med - Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism is seeking a Researcher II to support the in-patient studies of Dr. Ananda Basu and Dr. Rita Basu. This position will work on clinical studies and have some overnight work schedule requirements.

General Responsibilities

Under direct supervision:

  • To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter and summarize data.
  • To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Human plasma and urine sample processing, spinning, aliquoting.
  2. Follows lab SOPs and directions for preparation of solutions for lab assays.
  3. Runs glucose analyzer during studies in the Clinical Research Unit.
  4. Maintains study equipment.
  5. Prepares study related tubes, labels, and place codes.
  6. Maintains freezers and temperature logs.
  7. Stocks supplies, cleans lab glassware, and ships samples.
  8. Follows guidance of PI/PD and lab manager to carry our clinical research activities.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Hourly Salary Range $15.50 - $23.51

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Scientific laboratory skills, chemistry-based lab science preferred.
  • Ability to work various shifts hours will be needed for this position.
